Each Industry Tract takes a Comprehensive Approach to Ensure Success, including Workplace Readiness Training and Lessons in Self Advocacy

 

Workplace Readiness Training Program Topics:

• Communication skills • Teamwork • Problem-solving • Cooperation • Active listening • Decision making • Supporting others • Conflict resolution • Positive attitude Job Exploration Counseling Through real-world activities ensure that students recognize the relevance of a high school and post-school education to their futures, both in college and/or the workplace. • Foster motivation • Created curiosity about job opportunities. • Offers consideration of opportunities • Identification of career pathways of interest • Discussion of non-traditional employment options • Understanding how personal work-related values apply to opportunities throughout the workplace. • Understanding labor markets and application processes for the above industries. • Mentorship and modeling by the Amerability industry support team who may also be blind, low vision, or Deafblind to gain Greater insights for success.

 

Self Advocacy guides students with blindness and low vision to take responsibility and joy in planning their own lives, pursue the things that are valuable to them, and experience the same life opportunities as other people in their communities.

Self Advocacy Lessons Include:

• Decision-making • Effective communication (requesting help, assertiveness, active listening) • Evaluating options • Goal setting and attainment through activities and industry structures • Identifying independence • Intrinsic motivation • Leadership • Problem-solving • Self-determination • Peer mentoring through expanding their professional networks.
