Our Story

Amerability was born from a simple but powerful idea: that blind and low vision individuals deserve more than support — they deserve the tools, mentorship, and real-world experiences to build lives on their own terms. Founded by CEO Murray Elbourn, a legally blind leader with more than 25 years of executive experience in disability sports and workforce development across two continents, Amerability combines lived experience with professional expertise to create programs that don't just prepare participants for the world — they prove the world is already theirs to conquer. Murray's journey from captaining Australia's national goalball team and leading Disability Sports Australia as CEO to founding Amerability in the United States gave him a firsthand understanding of what blind and low vision individuals truly need to succeed: not sympathy, but strategy, structure, and someone who has walked the path before them. That philosophy is woven into everything Amerability does, from the way programs are designed to the mentors who deliver them, ensuring that every participant is met with high expectations, practical guidance, and the unwavering belief that their goals are within reach.

Our Program

Amerability offers eight structured programs organized around four transition pathways: further study, workplace entry, skill acquisition, and entrepreneurship. From the flagship Most Valuable Plan goal-setting workshops to the Startup Wizard entrepreneurship track, the AI, Tech and Gaming module, the Employ Me career readiness program, independent living skills through This is Living, and content creation through our Influencer program, each offering targets a specific dimension of personal and professional growth. Whether a participant is exploring their first career interest, building confidence through adaptive sports, learning assistive technology, or preparing to launch a business, there is a pathway built for them. Every program is grounded in action — participants don't just learn what's possible, they leave with a concrete plan to make it happen. Under the banner of "Train, Work, and Achieve," Amerability is proving every day that when you invest in people, give them the right tools, and surround them with mentors who understand their journey, there are no limits to what they can accomplish.

What We Believe

What sets Amerability apart starts with who we are. Every member of our team brings their own lived experience with blindness or low vision to the work, which means we don't teach from textbooks — we mentor from experience. Founded by CEO Murray Elbourn, a legally blind leader with more than 25 years of executive experience in disability sports and workforce development across two continents, Amerability was built on the belief that blind and low vision individuals don't need sympathy — they need strategy, structure, and someone who has walked the path before them. That philosophy drives our signature "Vision to Victory" series, which immerses participants in hands-on environments including adaptive sports, music production, entrepreneurship labs, and technology workshops at venues like Microsoft's Redmond campus. Through partnerships with State Vocational Rehabilitation agencies, national organizations, and industry leaders, we ensure that learning happens through doing, not just listening. Our goal with every interaction is to create the moment a participant realizes that the only thing standing between them and their future is a plan — and that they now have one.
